Description
When planning for a baby or navigating the early stages of pregnancy, one of the most essential steps you can take for your health—and your baby’s—is early screening for infections that may silently affect fetal development. The TORCH 10 Panel Test is a comprehensive blood test designed to detect a group of infections that are known to cause complications in pregnancy, including birth defects, miscarriage, and developmental issues in newborns. This advanced panel helps identify both current and past infections by measuring specific IgG (long-term immunity) and IgM (active/recent infection) antibodies.Toxoplasma IgG & IgM Antibodies – These detect past exposure (IgG) or recent infection (IgM) from Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite commonly transmitted through undercooked meat or contact with contaminated soil or cat litter. Toxoplasmosis can cause serious complications if acquired during pregnancy.
Rubella Virus IgG & IgM Antibodies – Rubella, or German measles, is a viral infection that can severely affect fetal development if contracted during early pregnancy. These tests determine whether the mother has immunity or a recent infection, helping to prevent conditions like congenital rubella syndrome.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG & IgM Antibodies – CMV is a common virus that may cause hearing loss, intellectual disabilities, or vision problems in babies if transmitted during pregnancy. These markers indicate past infection or current viral activity.
Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) IgG & IgM Antibodies – HSV-1 is typically associated with oral herpes. Detecting its presence is important, as it can still be transmitted to the baby during delivery if active.
Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) IgG & IgM Antibodies – HSV-2 is the virus responsible for genital herpes. If the virus is active at the time of labor, it can pose significant risks to the newborn, including neonatal herpes.
